Tips on living comfortably in China:
1. Perspective: Don’t believe everything that is published across the news portals. Based on my experience, China is much better or open than we read about in news.
2. Visa/ documents: Prepare your documents including medical tests that are needed by the Chinese authorities. Make sure to carry a hard copy of all the documents as most of your online portals might not be accessible to you in China.
3. Translate: Get basic understanding of words like Ni Hao, Buyong, xie xie and others. Download offline accessible versions of translate applications ( other than google). Google has been launched in China but it might not be the best solution always.
4. Insurance: Always buy insurance that will cover you in China
5. Addresses: Most cab booking portals are in Chinese so take note of all important addresses (like hotels) in Chinese language separately so that you can show that to drivers while hailing a taxi on road or airport.
6. VPN: Download VPN that can be used in China. Most sites cant be used in China unless you use VPN.
7. WeChat: Register with WeChat application as it is the most widely accepted mode of communication and transaction in China.
